Linda Zempel is a Northern California artist working primarily in watercolor and ink. Inspired by daily walks along Lake Natoma and a lifelong fascination with light, pattern, and design, she creates paintings that explore the space between landscape and abstraction.

Drawing on influences from photography, textiles, and the natural world, her work focuses on movement, transparency, and layered texture. Shifting reflections, reeds, water, and atmosphere often provide the initial spark, but the paintings evolve intuitively through fluid washes and expressive mark-making.

Rather than describing a particular place, Zempel’s work seeks to evoke a feeling—an invitation to pause, reflect, and find personal meaning within the interplay of light, color, and form.
