abstract

My passion for abstract painting holds an adventure and surprise with focus on color with feeling. Figures, faces, animals, and landscapes may appear during the process of painting, and if it works it remains in the composition. Acrylic paint, brushes, palette knives, combs, and paint wedges are used to make energetic marks across the canvas. The contrast of a flat color surface versus a layered textured area is what makes visual possibilities start to happen. Sweeping curved or angled lines and shapes are very important in creating movement across the canvas. Colors in nature are an inspiration, such as a violet, pink sky at dusk. Influences come from many avenues, such as contemporary and historical artworks, dance and music, architecture, and landscapes.
